Welcome to the Spot! Michelyn “Mikey” Hood Tinor is the founder of The Pittsburgh Spot. PghSpot.com is an on-line interview program that focuses on promoting the faces, businesses, and creative innovators that make up Pittsburgh. PghSpot.com operates as a non-profit entity giving back in every way we can! Michelyn is a graduate from the University of Pittsburgh. She earned her degree in English Writing with a focus in Journalism. She is currently pursuing a M.B.A in Journalism and Mass Communication from Point Park University.
Michelyn is a member of the Talent Group Agency and has been featured in various TV productions such as KDKA and Comcast. Michelyn has also been featured in print ads representing major companies like Med Express and FedEx. In addition, Michelyn has also appeared in local and national commercials.
- In 2016 Michelyn was selected as one of The New Pittsburgh Courier’s Fab 40, an award given to 40 people making a positive impact in the Pittsburgh community.
- In 2015 Michelyn was recognized as one of Pittsburgh’s 40 under 40 by Pittsburgh Magazine, a coveted award that recognizes it’s inductees overall impact on the Pittsburgh region.
- In 2009 Michelyn was nominated as one of Pittsburgh’s 50 finest by Whirl Magazine.
Michelyn has 15 years experience in the media industry and has worked with WAMO, BET and Comcast Spotlight. Michelyn is the 2013 Urban Innovation Small Business Grant award recipient. This award is given to entrepreneurs as an initiative aimed at promoting business development in the Hill District.
Currently Michelyn works at Visit Pittsburgh as a National Sales Director, responsible for bringing large conventions to Pittsburgh. Mikey also recently served for 3 years as the weekly “Mount TV” spokesperson for Mount Ararat Baptist church. Mt Ararat Baptist church has the largest congregation in Western Pennsylvania. Their media ministry reaches over 10,000 people every week.
PGHspot is an on-line video platform that brings awareness to diverse people in Pittsburgh who serve their community in an impactful positive manner; in turn helping to create more positive public media narratives. Through positive media narratives the PghSpot is helping to create a more just, diverse and equitable Pittsburgh.
